About

InterfaceUniversity.com:

The concept of creating a website dedicated to teaching graphical user interface techniques arose as a result of my own findings that there just weren't any quality tutorials out there. Sure, there are literally thousands of MENIAL and ORDINARY tutorials about how to create metallic text, or pill buttons, or any other hokie and played out effect. My desire, with this site, is to be the NUMBER 1 place on the web for Photoshop enthusiasts to learn how to make fantastic interfaces. My tutorials are, by far, the most in depth and high quality of any other tutorial site on the internet. I can guarantee that, and you can see for yourself on the tutorials page. I encourage any and all comments, good or bad :-), and look forward to talking with anyone who wants to reach me. I will periodically update the site with more tutorials and content so keep checking back! Also, why don't you sign up for the forums today!?

Myself:

My name is Ryan, and ever since I can remember I have enjoyed drawing and doodling things. All throughout school, whenever I should have been paying attention in class, my pencil always seemed to drift toward the margins of my paper where I would draw many 3D objects and futuristic looking "things". So naturally, I did the same thing on a computer when I got one, and have enjoyed making these cool interfaces ever since. I love to sketch out as many interfaces as I can on paper and then see if I can successfully bring them into photoshop to make them come to life. Sometimes it doesn't really come together and it's back to the drawing board, but other times, they turn out BETTER than I had imagined. I love when that happens!

Back in '98 and following I would spend hours scouring the net trying to find good tutorials for beginners on how to make these awesome interfaces I would see. My first and favorite resource was the old Andy's Art Attack website (contact me if you remember that one!), run by Andy Evans. This guy would blow me away every time he redesigned his front interface. I remember the first time I stumbled across it, I was astounded that something this cool could be made. I HAD to know more. That was what fueled me to know everthing I could about Photoshop and its capabilites for creating web graphics. After that, it was just a matter of time and practice to learn the, what I honestly consider as "Master Techniques", of interface creation. Such things as advanced shapes with the pen tool, strokes for wires, realistic 3D effects with the lighting effects filter, and the list goes on and on. These techniques, and many more, are combined in my tutorials and I will dedicate myself to teaching all those that want to learn, the knowledge that I have gained. That is my personal guarantee to you. If you ever want to contact me, please do so and I will do my best to respond to your comments or questions. Thanks for reading a little about me and the site and I look forward to teaching you!
